UPDATE:
Word just in from Dave via text that original rules will still apply, so my personal Top Ten of the Decade to fit the threads criteria will be posted very shortly.
I tried and squirmed and wriggled to get an extension to a top twenty but this really has been an excellent thread because of how difficult it has been.

1. Hot Water Music - Caution (2002) This album is the defining cathartic roar of the decade. It's an awe-inspiringly imaginative and consistent jaw-droppingly brilliant album that I could just listen to on repeat ad-infinitum. The gruff vocals and driving guitars that manage to combine the emotive riffs of Jawbreaker with the fury and energy of Dag Nasty. A magnificent testament to what a punk rock band can do if they keep both ears on expanding their sound, but both feet planted in their roots. On "Caution", HWM soar above the constraints of genres and for me deliver the finest release of the decade.
2. Jimmy Eat World - Chase This Light (2007) This album took "Futures" a step further and a step closer to perfection. Not in the direction everyone foresaw but I obsessed over this album the same way I did over the Gin Blossoms- "New Miserable Experience or "Dizzy Up The Girl" by The Goo Goo Dolls; it just connected with that undefinable resonance that reason doesn't ever pay heed to. It's not genre defining but it has a cynical ennui and paradox of being uplifting and wistfully rueful at the same time - Older & Wiser and catchy as hell.
3. Rise Against - Siren Song Of The Counter Culture (2004) An album which blew me away when I first heard it - stunning!! From the Politically aware sphere of punk that bore Bad Religion, Propagandhi and Minor Threat. This album weighs in like a heavyweight raining Hardcore Sociopolitical punches down everywhere until they crack out the acoustics and break your heart open as well! I have played this to death over the last few years.
4. A Wilhelm Scream - Career Suicide (2007) Insanely fast riffs, in-your-face lyrics and basslines that really matter, This album is the epitome of clever and intricate songwriting - awesome time signatures, chords & lyrics. Each melody is rewarding, each riff astonishing, each song structure flawless. There is not one bad track throughout Career Suicide. A four word summary of this CD - Harsh, Unruly, Dynamic genius!.
5. Alkaline Trio - From Here To Infirmary - (2001) For me, their pinnacle, every tune is a belter - Really can't see them ever topping it; even with an obsidian sheen, it's a catchy, riff-saturated edgy punk gem. Heavy on self loathing and alcoholic themes dripping with a barrage of killer choruses and the distinctive Matt Skiba trademarks of weird metaphors, dark humour and his evil Paul Westerberg vocals. This album hit me at the right time and I still love where it takes me when I listen to it.
6. The Ataris - So Long, Astoria (2003) Possibly the catchiest album on this list and by far their best release. The subject matter dealt with lyrically, creates a cohesive heart of an album seldom heard in today's pop-punk. This elevates them into echelons way above Dashboard and Saves The Day etc. An intelligent mix of genuinely great songs for the hearts and ipods of more than one generation.
7. Eastmountainsouth - Self Titled (2003) I can't remember how many times this album was my company through darker moments in the decade, like a shot of tequila for the soul this self-titled debut is a stark and beautiful record that combines the dark gothic sounds of the deep South with the hill country melodies of Appalachia. Its rich and complex composition and harrowing rural harmonies, have proved endlessly rewarding for me.
8. A Wilhelm Scream - Ruiner (2005) Superbly intricate songwriting - Razor sharp riffs & barbed lyrics delivered with intenisty and prowess. This album really upped the ante from their Debut "Mute Print" An album propelled by emotion, thought, opinion, and aggression. It is, to quote a moment from the movie Almost Famous, "Incendiary!"
9. Saosin - Saosin (2006) High soaring vocal & technically gifted guitars wrap themselves intricately around tight-knit riffs and intriguing chord structures. Melodic post-hardcore along the lines of Circa Survive that continues to resonate long after the initial rush of that first listen.
10.The Spill Canvas - No Really, I'm Fine (2007) I fell for this album hook line and sinker - there's just something utterly special about it. From the heartfelt, honest and strikingly vivid lyrical images. to the insanely catchy emo punk pop music with a genuine twist. So good it kept other Emo bands such as Anberlin and The Get Up Kids out of this list.

I did have a wee chuckle as would all Scottish football supporters at the irony of a Hearts supporter quoting the yellow/red card system - priceless. I could always follow their lead and extend the list to thirty, get a plethora of red cards, pay the fines and keep doin it - anyway! ;D heh heh] It seems at Saturday's game Falkirk commited 17 fouls to Heart's 15. yet Hearts received the only caution. Mmm....... At least Falkirk came out top on something

At least Falkirk came out top on something From Heartsfcnews.com and I quote - "The Jambos have been fined five years running for their disciplinary record and are already flying high on 18 sending-offs for the last season and a half." nuff said!!

Well, after finally gettin onto a PC for longer than 6 secs I can now unveil mine (oo-er missus!)...... 1) Hot Water Music - Caution [2002]
I'm sorry....I so wanted to go with someting else but It wouldn't have been honest.....so there It is....the Brothers McIntosh in similar outcome shocka - who'd'a have thunk it lol 2) A Wilhelm Scream - Ruiner [2005] For me, their finest moment, to this day it still baffles, bewilders and beguiles me - a true genius of a record that holds more ideas in a single bridge than most manage in a lifetime. 3) Strung Out - Blackhawks Over Los Angeles[2007] One of those albums that re-affirms all that is amazing about music. The politics, the razor-like riffs, the sheer, unfaltering passion - this never slips anywhere below Godlike and it was a hard decision between this and Ruiner for the 2nd spot. 4) From Monument To Masses - On Lesser Known Frequencies [2009] Since hearing Sharpshooter off of "The Impossible Leap In One Hundred Simple Steps" I'd had a sneakin suspision these guys were capable of pulling off something pretty special and bugger me if they didn't do it in style. For me an album which pretty much towers above everything else in 2009 and can sit proudly within the top 4 of a decade, with not a vocal line to be heard. A musical masterpiece which I defy anyone not to love. 5) Jimmy Eat World - Futures [2004] Obv a lot of debate about this one but for me this edges Chase This Light.....call it timing, placement......the fact it seemed to just appear and dissappear like the world sorta forgot about it so it has the geek obscurity factor about it.....I dunno what it is but it get's me every time. Lyrically incredible and when even the Demo disc makes most albums sound like they were recorded in a tin can you know you've got a belter on yr hands. 6) Hammock - Raising Your Voice..Trying To Stop An Echo [2006] To me, never....and I mean never, have guitars and technology blended as well as on this opus. A genuine revalation when I heard it for the first time and still to this day, it draws me into it's world effortlessly and blissfully every time - a classic. 7) Rise Against - Siren Song Of The Counter Culture [2004] Well....they were pretty unheard of on these shores at the time and I can remember the exact second that "The First Drop" exploded into my psyche as "State Of Of The Union" ended. One of those moments that will live with me and I obv aint alone since they've sold a record or 2 now! 8) The Ataris - Welcome The Night [2007] Heheheh.....yeah....I know......but I swear this one hit me harder than "Astoria" on a musical level and I still 'kin love it even tho damn near everyone else hates it To me it's taking the Pop-Punk by numbers structures of "Astoria" and giving them a shot of all the guitar madness I loved from the MBV, House Of Love, Boo Radleys, Jellyfish Kiss (etc, etc, etc) era of my youth - an absolute masterstroke for me lol 9) Saves The Day - Stay What You Are [2000] Another product of timing possibly but this album will live with me forever. An exciting new genre (sadly that didn't last) perfectly executed by a young band so full of promise, I love it. 10) No Use For A Name - Keep Them Confused [2005] An album that got me thru some some 'kin bleak days. And it's damn impressive even now - one of those amazing, life affirming albs again, just give you the tingle up the spine and let you know how lucky you are to be alive. So there ya are - extra bonus point to Chunders for mentioning that Number One Fan would be in mine - sadly it fell at the final cut!!!!!!
