Okay folks, here's one to get yr thinking caps on and kill about 2000 hours that none of us to spare! lol
Rank yr top ten albums of the decade - simple as that.
Usual rules apply - Only full length Albums allowed, no re-issues, re-masters or comps and all release dates must be on Discogs.com as originally between Jan 2000 and Dec 2009 and NO exceptions to the limit of 10 - that's half the fun/stress!
And let's try get everyone involved in this one, no excuses.....If we get enough, I'll work out the overall board top ten and stream it as the Shatterhand radio channel over at last.fm

1 - Jimmy Eat World - Futures - Came along at a time, when it just totally hit the spot about where I was. Lyrically brilliant, to me it just flows from start to finish, I skip nothing on this. And 23.......The songs that never made it on here appeared on the 'stay on my side tonight' ep. Proof of how good they were at this time. 2 - The Get Up Kids - On A Wire - The hardest decision in this ten was choosing between this and Futures for number 1. They lost a lot of fans who expected 'Something To Write Home About Part 2' I think they kinda grew up on this album. Again start to finish. it flows perfectly and 'Hannah Hold On'.... 3 - Rise Against - Siren Song Of The Counter Culture - Blew me away when I fisrt heard this. Great Voice and loads of different styles on the same album. 'State Of The Union' and 'Swing Life Away' on the same album shouldn't work but it does. 4 - Strung Out - Blackhawks Over Los Angeles - Nothing Sounds like this. Amazing guitar lines, sure I read somewhere that the bassist and guitarist wrote each others parts for this album. 5 - The Ataris - So Long Astoria - An honest, reflective album full of catchy tunes, nothing more, nothing less. 6 - No Motiv - Daylight Breaking - Produced by the band after Trever Keith doing the previous 2 albums. A dark, dark album, great sleeve, gret guitars, great voice. 7 - A Wilhelm Scream - Career Suicide - we've had many discussions about their best, but for me it's this. Its relentless, no mid-paced tunes on this, I think Ruiner slows at times, disrupting the flow, but Ruiner would still be Top twenty for me. 8 - Samiam - Astray - Not as poppy as 'While You Were Waiting' what went wrong after this. they namecheck the Doughboys, and everyone has been to 'Mud Hill. A Sunny album most of the way through. 9 - Propagandhi - Potemkin City Limits - Blew me away this one, and the new one is nearly as good. They tell fat Mike to take a hike on this one. I was impressed with the Fuck You 'Rock Agaionst Bush' Stance at the time. Clever album with 'America's Army' the standout. 10 - Hot Water Music - Caution - 3 years after No Division and sounding like a different band, HWM still have it. Trusty Chords might just be the best song of the decade. Edited with Reasons for picking them, cos more effort was made by others. Jeez that was tricky.

Got a list of 40 big guns and will start a whittlin down after a cheeky wee listen to them all first - a twenty list would have given a fuller picture of the decade but a ten is really prescriptive!! It can be done though.

Got a top 20 - that any use? mumble mumble top ten grumble mumble
Ten is too finite - ya dinnae get the whole feel of the decade man. I got twenty with so little difference between them it's stoopid. Actual order could vary daily so whatever happens to be in my head that particular day will get in, and for a whole decade that is random!!
Feckin thread rules - jobsworth bar steward ye!!

The other day I had on 'Situationist Comedy' on which was about no.12 for me, and I thought shit that should b in and .....somethin should be out. I reckon I could guess at least 3 or 4 of what you've got. Its a snapshot in time. ;D

If I think a rule/law is flawed I will usually try to enter into some kind of discourse to get it changed if possible.
Dave, of course has vanished and as the thread owner, the only one who could revisit the rules, which you have quite rightly pointed out to me (in bold no less). and you know I'll play by the rules at the end of the day.
I think the ten is restricting and could lead to me making decisions just to fit the criteria rather than an open choice. For example, where a band is likely to have more than one entry in the ten, because it's so limiting I might drop the second one out to bring in another band to give the ten a more rounded look (you see where I'm going - the appearance of perverse behaviours to fit a constricting rule system rather than free expression).
I did have a wee chuckle as would all Scottish football supporters at the irony of a Hearts supporter quoting the yellow/red card system - priceless. I could always follow their lead and extend the list to thirty, get a plethora of red cards, pay the fines and keep doin it - anyway! ;D heh heh
Dave - I await a definitive decision before I make my next move!
